At sunset, color and value contrasts are strong. What attracted me to this scene was the strong blue light from the sky reflected in the shadows of the rocks and ground.
I lived in West Texas for several years. The images I still have of the desert and mountain landscape of the region are vividly recalled in so much of your fine work.
I especially enjoyed the "Prickly Pear" piece. The color contrasts and the detail in the golden grasses in stunning.
Welcome to my collection of small oil paintings done on location, and studio works based on field studies, photos, memory and imagination. I've included some background info about the selection of subjects and the making of my paintings. To view more studio pieces, click on the link to my website below. I hope you find something here that strikes a visual and emotional note with you. Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog.
Here is an abbreviated list of composers and songwriters whose music inspires images of clouds, rain, wind, sun, sky and space. For me, the selected pieces capture intangible moods created by dramatic light, color and atmosphere. The selection of music is therefore purely subjective, and wasn't necessarily written for this purpose. If the strong choral component of these pieces suggests a spiritual take, so be it. I regard it as a cultural artifact. I mean, what would cloud music be without ethereal choral accompaniment? I particularly like listening to this music while driving, but have to remember to keep my head out of the clouds and my eyes on the road. Send me your favorite examples of "cloud music."
* Bill Douglas: Tara (choral version), Golden Rain, various others
* Jon Anderson: Cloud Singing * Ryan Farish: Carried by the Wind, Walk With You, Miles Away, Shine, Allure and various others * Constance Demby: Lotus Opening; Novus Magnificat, Through the Stargate (album) * David Arkenstone: Ancient Legend
